Once again the Canadian government has been deceptive with it's naive and passive population. The government decided that all firearms would be registered and passed Bill C-68 in 1995 to establish the program.. Jan 1st 2003 was the proposed deadline for registration. The initial budget was $2 million. Registration fee was set at $60. Now the cost of admistration of the program has reached $1 billion and a further $120 milllion is required to keep the program afloat for the next year. It is claimed that the latter $120 million will NOT be used for gun safety or training programs but is earmarked for public relations advertising, travel, hospitality and conferences. (freebies for the paper giants of the program!) Firearms safety and gun safety courses remain the financial responsibility of the gun owners. It is also a published fact that ownership of sporting guns is in rapid decline There is several obvious problems with this whole fiasco....the most glaring one is that we don't see and we never will see the bad guys (one of the main targets in this program!) lining up to register their guns and another being the mathmatics of the exercise smells very suspicious indeed. The population of Canada is aprox 30 milllion, subtract the majority of females who might not be into firarms, the children, the elderly non gun owners and I think one can make a conservative estimate that maybe one fifth of the population has a gun and that is giving the government some fiddling leaway. So we arrive at a possible 6 million gun owners costing BILLION plus..Does this figure wake up a Candian to something just not right! Nope! I live in a large city that cannot pay to have a decent paedriatrician, ill children with life threatening conditions have to travel 200 miles to another major center and up till only recently: the parents had to pay for the ambulance transfer! How many Doctors, hospitals, nurses, will a billion dollars pay for? How much military equipment would it buy save our troops the shame of borrowing kit from other nationalities when operating abroad. Lastly, the gun registration program appears to be just another smoke and mirrors plot that enables a government to finance other expensive and more embarrassing fiascos. How long will Canadians sit back and let this sort of thing happen? It is, after all it's YOUR money they waste!

Nothing will change unless we the people make them the government accountable for their actions and the use of taxpayer $$$
