Even though I think I'm in the minority here, thought I'd pass this along from one of the commentaries on sacred texts. World would be a nicer place perhaps if it's something we could all remember (just substitute Whatever Yours Is for Torah, and it works, I think): Quote: Resh Lakish said he who utters words of Torah so that they are not sweet to those who hear them would do better not to utter them at all. (Exodus Rabbah, 41:15)

I will post quotes outlining the 2 statements above shortly, as I have a copy of the Koran here with me....but I am busy at this moment. Rest assured, I will definitely get them up sooner than later!
I just wanted to get the thread up and running for preliminary discussion.
ENJOY! An interesting and important topic this is franky and i'm sitting here with a copy of the Quran and several versions of the bible, including a 'chumash' which has the Hebrew and English text of the 'Pentateuch' or 'Torah' attributed to the pen of my revered ancestor, Moses the Teacher.
I have been studying the Bible since I was three at varying levels of intensity throughout my life and only started reading Quran a few years ago (when I recovered my copy from somebody's garbage) and haven't read much.
One note of caution I would like to inject is that these are ancient words that may be interpreted in many ways by modern people who might interpret something to mean that murder or spousal abuse is a righteous act.

It is that falling away from the grace achieved in living the covenant of the doctrine of universal, unconditional love defined by Deuteronomy 6 and arrogant self-deified humanism that makes people forget their position and role within the mechanisms of live and death in the material world.

Ok, back on topic I have the entire collection of "Walking with ..." on DVD, great stuff. Have to watch what they say sometimes as they tend to state a lot of speculation as fact, but it's very entertaining and interesting.

I watched a documentary last night about an Australian, ex-mormon, lesbian, comedian who was invited to be the key note speaker at a mormon homosexuality conference. There was a bit of stuff about the history of mormons in it, and what I couldn't believe was what happened with polygamy (I don't know if I have the facts right, but this is what happened according to the documentary). Originally, mormons were allowed to have many wives. This upset many people in the US, and led to a lot of violence towards mormons. Eventually the US government passed a law prohibiting polygamy. After this law was passed, god spoke to one of the mormon leaders (or prophets or whatever they call them), and said that he no longer wanted them to practice polygamy. Now, as an outside observer, it seems to me that god is taking orders from the US government. The government outlaws polygamy, and god says, 'hey, they're right, what was I thinking'. All seems ridiculous to me.

i dont understand why teh Koran gets so much flack for saying the same things, although the followers of teh Bible do not take this literally anymore.
so why is this not taken literaly anymore!?what has "changed"!?has god 'backed off"!? a corporate profit making decision!?you go an create this wonderland and it bacKfires on you (because of mismanagemant)(delegation)and you overeact and then reconsider......send an "emmisary".....sound about right!?been there done that!?what is the "REAL" division amoung men!is it not the competition for status and wealth!?and what is status and wealth!?authority and power over physical life and it's perks!!and is technology the tool to all ends by power and authority!?and who is the permissive enabler to this dynasty!?does the tribal chief as if by magic seek to control the tribe by technology!?his own or that offered to him by outsiders!?and who are the outsiders!?and where is their origination!?
