I received a call from someone in Florida who wants to buy my 96 Grand Marquix I have advertised online here in Virginia. The car needs some minor repair and had priced it low knowing it would require some work. Even after disclosing the few things wrong with the car, the guy wanted to purchase the vehicle sight unseen. We negotiated the price and he has sent me a $100 deposit via Western Union.

He is Fed-Exing the balance of the funds on Monday via a cashiers check drawn on Wachovia Bank. He told me to cash the check and for my peace of mind I don't have to worry about turning the vehicle over to him until I am satisfied his check has cleared. He told me to take the check to a Wachovia bank and they would cash it immediately. After I have cash in hand he wants me to call him and arrange for a shipping company to pickup the vehicle.

So far this all sounds legit. However, I have a gut feeling something is wrong and am waiting for something to go south somewhere during this transaction.

He identified himself as a broker who purchases used vehicles for export to countries overseas.

Has anyone run into any scams of this nature. Any tips on what I should look out for?

Cash the check. Just take an FBI agent with you when you do it!

Just an update...
I received a $100 Western Union payment from the company in Florida. I also received a cashiers check via Fedex on Tuesday for the remainder of the balance. The check was drawn on Wachovia bank and I verified funds through Wachovia before I cashed it. The bank assured me that the check was good so I cashed it. I also received a Bill of Sale with their company information filled in and it was highlighted for me to fill in the VIN, odometer, etc. They asked me to send them the title along with the original Bill of Sale and he is making arrangements for a trucking company to pick up the car. The only thing that was out of the ordinary is they asked me not to fill in the buyers info on the title. I signed the title and filled in the odometer reading. The Virginia DMV told me as long as I have a Bill of Sale and de-register the vehicle when it's picked up, I have a paper trail to cover me in case something happens and the vehicle isn't re-titled. Anyway, this appears to be a legit transaction.

If anyone sees any potential problems please say something. I'm going to mail the paperwork to the new owner tomorrow.
