Lifetime Fitness is a scam...

Sure they have a great work out facilities across the nation..

The Initial Exam they give you for free when you sign up that they weigh you, test your flexibility, strength and stamina is a total scam.

The computer program that is used for this test is programed to tell you that you have the fitness age of person much older then you and the scale is always 10-15 lbs heavier..

They do this to try and sell you thousands of dollors worth of training on the spot..

Many of the locations have tons of employee turn over-- More then car dealerships...
Many young employees moved from up north to come upon up locations in Texas only to be let down by empty promies made by this company..

Their sales people will tell you anything to get you to sign up because so much pressure is being placed on them to make the proper sales goals..

The owner of this company is from IRAN if that tells you anything..

When I went through Marine Corps boot camp way back in the 80s, I came out of there in the best shape of my life. All we used was running and calisthenics. They were free. In fact, I made a little money for doing it.

I think what JREA626 meant was that many (not all) people from IRAN and the middle east don't have the same moral values as many Americans..

I was a member, They really messed up the Tennis courts at the facility in Plano..They have sense fixed some of their problems with the tennis courts..

They had a row of 5 tennis courts with no divideing court fences and also had that Rubber substance as the surface.. They laid the tennis courts in rain and the rubber did not take to the concrete, thus creating holes that ripped up and the tennis court would bubble up in the rain.. They also tried to charge a $5.00 court fee on top of the membership fees.. That was not cool!.. They did not tell me this when I signed up my membership...

You would assume that you pay a membership fee for that and not have to pay additional fees for court time..

They have sense re-surfaced the courts and put up new netting to divide the courts..

They also placed the tennis courts right next to the outdoor pool...

Nobody can play serious tennis match with the craziness going on at the pool and Bob Marley playing on the outdoor speakers..

They had a great Tennis Pro, that they did not give a chance to...

I am certainly dissatisfied with Lifetime Fitness. My husband works out on the fitness equipment, but I mainly like to swim. So, during our tour of the facility before we joined, they really promoted their pools. I specifically asked if the pools were open early in the morning because that's when we workout. "Oh, yes" was their reply. Unfortunately, I should have gone to the facility early in the mornings. I have been swimming there for one month, and every single day at least a portion of the pool area has been closed. The outdoor pool has been closed every single morning!! Some people swim in the outdoor pool anyway, and I did that one day. But after seeing bandaids and other items float by, I opted not to swim in that dirty pool again.

Today, all of the pools were closed, and the people at the front desk had no idea why or when they would be open.

My advise to anyone joining Lifetime Fitness (or any workout facility) would be to visit the facility numerous times during the time periods you would normally workout. However, if I had been smarter, I would have only had to visit once, since a portion of their pool area has been closed every morning.

One final note, in my opinion, Lifetime Fitness is not the place for people who swim to workout. I think the primary purpose of their pools is to entice families to join to give kids a place to swim (e.g., the numerous slides, snack bar at the outdoor pools, etc.). Hence, the reason the pools are closed so often in the early mornings.

There is no doubt, Lifetime Fitness has great facilities.. Just a horrible place to work..

The Plano location is managed by a lady Jo Cullen, who is a middle aged lady with some plastic surgury done who is dating/living with the Area Director Bob Thomas.. Because of this Jo, can get away with anything.. If this realtionship ever sour's then there will be some lawsuits as a result..

Stock holders beware of this...!!!

The HR lady is well aware of this...

Things are VERY political and many of the employees are sleeping with other employees and this makes for much DRAMA.. Tryna the head lady at the desk was one of the worst.

There are many good looking ladies that are members.. Many with fake body parts..

We once had a lady get into a fist fight with her husbands girl he was cheating with..

Lifetime Fitness does not care at all about their employees.. They will always hire young high school kids or kids in college or fresh out of college.. They do this because they know they can take advantage of them..

I pesonally saved a guys life who had a heat stroke in the steam room and never as so much got a " thanks." from management.

They would hire adults but, the mature adults who would actually work hard and show up to work on time, would not last long because of all the craziness, unproffesionalism that goes on..

It was horrible, they had a death in the building of this facility and OSHA came in and did a huge investigation.. I am sure the families of the dead got nothing..

Anyone thinking of working at Lifetime Fitness.. Beware!!!!!!!!!!

CowboyJimmy,

I know what you are talking about! The old tennis pro their mentioned a few things in confidential to me as a friend..

I was a member and dropped out when the old tennis pro left.. It seems like he took the fall for many of the short comings that management had about tennis in Plano,TX..

After the Tennis pro left I went to talk to the General Manager Jo, and she seemed not to care much about tennis because it was not a big money generating thing.

So I left and dropped my membership..

I know alot of my neighbors in the Deerfeild area are not happy that a "Big Box" store such as Lifetime Fitness moved into their neighborhood.. The lady across from the tennis courts put up a big fight because she was unhappy that the tennis court lights would be shining into her backyard..

Do you think that, that Lifetime Fitness cares about that old lady... ? Hell No..

Nor did they care about the poor construction worker who died..

There was people picketing in Plano before the grand opening..

I don't have any first hand knowledge re: how they treat their employees, but I do know that they have a lot of very young employees who can hardly answer any questions about the facility. I disagree about the great facilities. Yes, they are big. Yes, they have lot's of equipment. But the facility in Plano is definitely not great. For one thing, the pools are incredibly dirty. I have not received any answers from the employees as to why the pools are so dirty (one person just said she did not know why the pools are so dirty). They are shamless about the dirt in the pools; they don't even try to make them look clean by using a vacuum to clean out the dirt. The dirt just collects in piles at the bottom of the pools - it doesn't really look like "dirt" exactly, but something collects on the bottom of the pools. I can't even imagine how the water would test - although they appear to over chlorinate the water because it will rot out a swimsuit in 3-4 weeks even if you rinse it with swuitsuit cleaner every time you go in their pool. I guess I will call the health department tomorrow.
