I used a trial membership at the Lifetime Fitness in Colleyville Tx. Dirty, untrained staff, noisey and over run with teenagers. Not just teenage members, but staff.
I agree with the replies to this thread. Call the Health Department.
The interpersonal relationsships of the employees have no place being broadcast to the members. It sounds like the Plano location is blatent about it. One of the main reason why I have stayed away from 24HR Fitness.
My advise is search out the smaller gyms. Find a locally owned one. They are more apt work with you on a membership. I went and tried out 3 in my area. I'm lucky I found a month to month membership at BHC Fitness in Bedford. Very comfortable.
I hope the rest of you aren't stuck in a long term contract at a place you don't like. Have you tried to find a different place?
Tennisbar, I agree with you on those overly bright lights. It amazes me that the city of the one close to me allowed that. Those poor people who live right behind it...

Lifetime Fitness is the worst about employees dating at work..
I just noticed in the Dallas paper that they had a member die in the Flowermound Club..
All of there employees are suppose to be Adult and child CPR certified, but they have so much turnover they can't get them certified fast enough..
This company has a horrible record with all the BBB's around the nation..
They do so much business they must not care...
Some of their employees are good people.. But, the good people don't seem to last long their..

I don't mean to sound like a disgruntled ex-employee.. But, I guess.. I am! In my 10 years of being in the job market I have never had such a bad experience with my employer. Expecially after I feel like I poored my heart into my job and worked my butt off. Often 15 hour days 6 and 7 days a week.
I really should have sued this company.. I did consult an attorney about it and he said I had a valid case. But, said with such a large company its hard for one person to fight a multi billion dollar company.
And the truth of the matter is I am not the type of person to sue.. But, once you have been burned so many times you feel like you have to stick up for yourself.

Yes, it is sad that more corporations dont' value their employees much as they did in the past. No Loyalty to there employees.
You would think that they would learn that Employee Turnover cost them money.

Wow,
You all sound like a bunch of Biggots! You are complaining about the founder being from Iran? That is just ridiculous, whoever generalized an entire culture and nation by saying "they dont have the same values" is an idiot.
What has Lifetime really done to scam? They offer month to month memberships... NO CONTRACTS, they are very upfront about the fee structure. You are complaining that people don't know what they are talking about? Come on! They work very hard to GET everyone CPR certified and do a ton of inhouse training programs. Do you have any idea how hard it is to employ perfect people to run a health center open 24 hours a day? They do a very good job, and pay accordingly.
Basically, you are complaining the lights are too bright, things a tennis instructor told you, and that the people are dumb? If that is your complaints... then look at your options. Bally's, Golds, 24 fitness, sport and health and all the other clubs - most dont even HAVE pools. You want a mom & pop gym? Try finding one with FREE daycare, basketball, and everything for that price.
If you don't like the place - CANCEL! At least you CAN here! They do a very good job in comparison and you are all being unreasonable. Much easier to post complaints on a website.
And to the person who said he worked 15 hour days and got screwed working there. QUIT! The turnover is not that much when compared to other Sales jobs, which I assume is what you did. You may just not be cut out for a commission job, and that is fine.
This company tries VERY hard to please the consumer, but you CANNOT please everyone. So if you don't like the club, cancel, at least you can there.
BY THE WAY. Yes I do work here. And I have for over 5 years, I have seen good and bad stuff, but this company is honestly out there to create a safe, fun environment for people to get healthy.

dknisely,
Where shall I start..
First apon signing up before the Plano Location was open. I was NEVER told about the tennis court fee of $5.00. My sales guy was well aware that I joined because of tennis. I would not have joined. They don't charge money to step on the Basketball Court or jump in the pool. Why should Tennis have an extra charge. Apon speaking with the Tennis Pro. He was unware of the extra charge as well until after he took the job and said it was out of his control. He was aware of my dissatisfaction and he did allow me to play for free many times. So that was cool.
I can play at High Point Tennis center for $2.50 a court and not pay a monthy charge and initiatioin fee.
Second, All of the scales are 10-15lbs heavey upstairs and the phyiscal assesment is designed to make people feel fatter and more out of shape then they really are all in an effort to sell them THOUSANDS of Dollars of Training. I got followed around for a month by a personal trainer that asked me about 20 times about signing up for personal training. After telling about 20 diffrent personal trainers NO. They finally stop harrassing me.
They should not charge for child care that is staffed by 4, 16 year old girls and have 60 plus kids running around like animals. That is too many kids with too few adults watching. Often I could not schedule a time to drop off my infant. They were always booked because they have sold memberships to 10,000 + people.
I did cancel my membership. I did talk to Jo Cullen. I also complained to the BBB. All of which was ignored. Nobody would return my phone calls.
I made the choice to go to LA Fitness. They are members in good standing with the BBB and seem to have a much friendlier staff and don't try and scam you and follow you around the gym for personal training.

You gotta be kidding me.
What the hell is wrong with 16 year old people working? Is that some sort of age discrimination? At least they speak fluent english, ALL have backround checks done on them and HAVE infant and adult CPR certs.
You joined for only tennis? Then you joined the wrong place. Lifetime Fitness doesnt even make the equipment that tests body fat. Polar does, ever heard of them? They are one of the largest suppliers of fitness equipment and make almost all heart rate monitors.
The scales are too heavy? Someone harrassed you about personal training? It sounds like someone gave you a wakeup call and showed you to be healthy you need to do MORE than just playing friekin Tennis. And then you complain about sometimes not getting an appointment time in the childcenter?! We take infants at 3 months! You NEED an appointment because they need more attention. The fact that we take infants at all is unheard of in this industry.
You complain about the ratios being to high for children in the center? The state law is nothing compared to what we do, we go above and beyond it and require one person to every 1-12 year old.
Im done arguing with you. But LA fitness in almost EVERY market is a lot more expensive. If you can afford that than great for you, they are great competition to us. In the Health club industry Lifetime Fitness makes a Concerted effort to NOT high pressure sell, cheat, or mistreat people. I know because I am one of the people on the front lines.
A scam is something a lot different than your bad experience at a health club. And collectively I wish some of our members could be directed to this site. We have thousands of "wow" situations compared with the few complaints like yours.

By the way,
Have you ever worked in a service driven environment? Ever waited tables, answered phones, whatever.
You are probably that person that yells and screams no matter what. No matter what we do, nothing will make you happy. No one knows wether it is just your personality - complaining constantly - or you just had a bad day, but YOU personally make it hard for all of us to work everyday.
There is a simple fix at Lifetime. You have an entire Month to try the membership, if for ANY reason you dont like it, you cancel and get your money back. When they told you about the extra fee for tennis why didnt you just cancel?! It COULD be possible that the sales person, who works their ass off trying to make people happy and sell memberships MAY have forgotten to tell you about the extra charge! God knows, people are not perfect. Why does this automatically become militous?
After that, Like I said - there IS no cantract.... JUST CANCEL and save us all the headache.

... And the word is "UPON" not "APON". If it was once, it may have been a typo, but you wrote it like 3 times. Go back to school too.

Actually I am 5' 10 and 140 lbs with 6 percent body fat. I think I am doing pretty well.
I know many people who have had a horrible experience at Lifetime Fitness.

dknisely,
If you worked at the Plano location. I am sure I would know who you are.
I was a department head and did not work on commission.
I understand you want to have some sort of pride about where you work and how you earn your living. I can't blame you for that. But, you have to admit Lifetime is a very "cutt-throat" place to work.
Out of the 12 department heads we started with, 8 of the 12 were gone before I was in the first 8 months. %75 percent turnover among the managers. That to me is a problem of uppermanagement. Many of those 8 department heads were good people and great employees.
There was over %50 turnover among the sales people-atleast! I felt sorry for many of them because many of them moved halfway across the U.S. and uprooted their families because they were promised advancement from Bob.
So many employees were sleeping with co-workers it was unreal.
I know this is probably typical in the Fitness Club industry.
It was funny to me that many employees problems got swept under the carpet as long as you kiss Jo and Bobs ass and worked like a slave for them.
The same rules did not apply to everyone.
Getting out of Lifetime was the best career move ever. I now work for a great company with great Christian people and have zero drama at the workplace.
Never before have I gone to a Sexual Harrasement training class where the first scenerio in the educational video was being played out in real life between Jo and Bob your General Manager ind District Manager---- VERY UNPROFFESIONAL!
You are right. There were tons of customers that gripped about the littlest of things. But, many of them had VERY valid complaints.
